Getting Started

How to Upload Materials

There are two easy ways to add materials to your library:

Drag & Drop

Simply drag files from your computer and drop them anywhere on the Materials page. You can drop multiple files at once. If you have a folder open, files will be added to that folder.

Upload Button

Click the "Upload" button in the toolbar to open a file picker. Select one or more files from your computer. Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) to select multiple files.

Supported File Types

PDF

Textbooks, manuals

DOCX / DOC

Word documents

JPG / JPEG

Photos, diagrams

PNG

Screenshots, images

What Happens After Upload

When you upload a file, our AI automatically processes it:

  1. Text extraction - The content is extracted and made searchable
  2. Topic detection - AI identifies key topics and subjects covered
  3. Auto-tagging - Relevant tags are generated based on content
  4. Indexing - The material becomes searchable via "Ask AI"

Processing typically takes 10-30 seconds depending on file size. You'll see a progress indicator while it's being processed.

Organizing Your Materials

Creating Folders

Create a New Folder

  1. Click the "New Folder" button in the toolbar
  2. Enter a name for your folder (e.g., "Electrical Theory", "Year 2 Notes")
  3. Click "Create" to add the folder

Nested Folders

You can create folders inside folders for deeper organization:

Electrical/

Theory/

Chapter 1 - Basics.pdf

Chapter 2 - Circuits.pdf

Code Book/

CEC 2024.pdf

Moving Materials

Drag & Drop to Move

Move files between folders using drag and drop:

  1. Click and hold on a material or folder
  2. Drag it over the destination folder (it will highlight)
  3. Release to drop the item into that folder

You can also select multiple items (checkbox) and use the "Move" action from the toolbar.

Using Tags

AI-Generated Tags

When you upload a file, AI automatically generates relevant tags based on the content. For example, a wiring diagram might get tags like "electrical", "wiring", "residential", "120V". These tags help you find materials later.

Custom Tags

Add your own tags to any material:

  1. Click on a material to open its details panel
  2. Find the "Tags" section
  3. Type a new tag and press Enter to add it
  4. Click the X on any tag to remove it

Bulk Tagging

Add tags to multiple materials at once:

  1. Select multiple materials using the checkboxes
  2. Click the "Add Tags" button in the toolbar
  3. Enter the tags you want to add
  4. Click "Apply" to tag all selected materials

Finding Materials

Search

Search Your Library

Use the search bar at the top to find materials by:

  • Title - File name or document title
  • Tags - Both AI-generated and custom tags
  • Topics - Subjects detected in the content

Search results update as you type. Press Enter or click a result to view the material.

Filters

Filter Options

Narrow down your materials using filters:

  • File Type - Show only PDFs, images, or documents
  • Folder - View contents of a specific folder
  • Tags - Filter by one or more tags

Sort Options

Sorting Materials

Sort your materials by:

  • Date Added - Newest or oldest first
  • Name - Alphabetical (A-Z or Z-A)
  • File Size - Largest or smallest first

Ask AI Feature

The Ask AI feature lets you have a conversation with your study materials. Instead of manually searching through documents, just ask a question in plain language.

How to Use Ask AI

  1. Click the "Ask AI" button to open the chat panel
  2. Type your question in the text box at the bottom
  3. Press Enter or click Send
  4. AI will search your materials and provide an answer with source references

What You Can Ask

"What is the torque spec for cylinder head bolts?"

AI searches your service manuals and returns the specification

"Explain the difference between series and parallel circuits"

AI pulls explanations from your textbooks and notes

"What are the lockout/tagout steps in my safety manual?"

AI finds and summarizes the procedure from your documents

"Find all references to conduit sizing"

AI locates every mention across all your materials

How It Works

When you ask a question, the AI:

  1. Searches through all your uploaded materials
  2. Finds the most relevant sections and passages
  3. Synthesizes an answer based on your documents
  4. Shows you which materials the answer came from (with page numbers when available)

Chat History

View Past Conversations

Your Ask AI conversations are saved automatically. To view past chats:

  1. Open the Ask AI panel
  2. Click the "History" icon at the top

Storage & Quotas

Free Tier Storage

100MB Free Storage

Free accounts include 100MB of storage for study materials. This is enough for:

  • Several textbook chapters or manuals (PDF)
  • Dozens of notes and diagrams
  • Hundreds of image files

Checking Your Usage

View your storage usage at any time:

  1. Go to your Materials Library
  2. Look at the storage bar at the top of the page
  3. It shows used storage vs. your total quota

You can also see storage usage in Settings > Billing.

Upgrading for More Storage

Need more space? Paid plans include significantly more storage:

  • Basic Plan - 500MB storage
  • Apprentice Plan - 2GB storage
  • Challenge Plan - 5GB storage

Tips & Best Practices

Organize by Course or Semester

Create a folder structure that mirrors your courses or school terms. For example: "Year 1 > Electrical Theory > Chapters" or "2024 Fall Semester > HVAC". This makes it easy to find materials when studying for specific exams.

Use Meaningful Tags

While AI generates tags automatically, add your own tags that make sense to you. Use tags like "exam-prep", "important", "review-needed", or specific topic names. Consistent tagging makes searching much faster.

Name Files Descriptively

Before uploading, rename files to be descriptive. "Chapter 5 - Motor Controls.pdf" is much easier to find than "scan001.pdf". Good file names improve search results and make browsing easier.

Regular Cleanup

Periodically review your materials and remove outdated or duplicate files. This keeps your library organized and your storage usage low. You can delete materials from the details panel or by selecting multiple items and clicking Delete.
