Mentoring on Red Seal Hub

Some parts coming soon

How to register as a mentor, build your profile, get matched with apprentices, and run sessions. Teach what you know and help the next generation of trades workers.

What mentoring on Red Seal Hub is

Mentoring lets experienced trades workers share what they know with apprentices and students who are still learning. You set up a profile, apprentices find you, and you meet for sessions to work through the topics they struggle with.

You choose your own competencies, the languages you work in, and whether you charge an hourly rate or mentor for free. Some mentors do this to give back, others to earn on the side. Both are welcome.

  • Help apprentices with weak areas, exam prep, and real-world know-how
  • Pick the trades and topics you want to mentor in
  • Mentor for free or set an hourly rate, your call
  • Work on your own time, no fixed hours or commitments

The full mentor experience is still being built out. You can register and build your profile now, and more tools are on the way.

Registering as a mentor

You register through the Become a Mentor form. Your profile is reviewed before it goes live, so apprentices only see approved mentors.

  1. Go to /mentorship/register.
  2. Select your trade from the list.
  3. Enter your years of experience.
  4. Write a short bio (at least 50 characters) about your background and how you like to teach.
  5. Add at least one competency, meaning the specific areas you can mentor in, such as Hydraulic Systems or Conduit Bending.
  6. Add the languages you can mentor in (English is added by default).
  7. Set an hourly rate in Canadian dollars, or leave it blank to mentor for free.
  8. Submit your application and wait for your profile to be reviewed.

A clear, specific bio and a few well-chosen competencies help apprentices understand exactly what you can help with.

Building your mentor profile

Your profile is what apprentices see when they browse or get matched. It shows your trade, years of experience, bio, competencies, languages, and your rate. Verified mentors get a Verified badge, and your rating and completed session count build up over time as you mentor.

  • Keep your competencies accurate so the right apprentices reach you
  • List every language you can comfortably mentor in to widen your reach
  • A Verified badge and a strong rating help you stand out in search

How apprentices find and book you

Apprentices can find you two ways. They can browse the mentor directory at /mentors and filter by trade or search by competency, or they can use AI matching at /mentorship/find, which matches them to mentors based on their learning goals and weak areas.

When an apprentice opens your profile, they can book a session with you. Your sessions then show up in your mentorship area where you can keep track of them.

Direct messaging between mentors and apprentices is marked as coming soon, so for now the connection happens through booking a session.

Running sessions

You manage your sessions from /mentorship/dashboard. It shows your upcoming, completed, and cancelled sessions, along with the date, time, and length of each one.

After a session takes place you can mark it as completed, and apprentices can leave you a review and rating that builds your reputation. If something comes up, you can cancel a scheduled session.

  1. Open /mentorship/dashboard to see your sessions.
  2. Check the Upcoming tab for sessions that are scheduled.
  3. Meet with your apprentice at the scheduled time.
  4. After the session, mark it as completed.
  5. Let the apprentice leave a review so your rating grows.

Getting paid and earnings

Paid mentoring and mentor payouts are still being finished. You can set an hourly rate on your profile today, but automatic payouts to your bank are not live yet.

Until payouts are ready, the simplest way to start is to mentor for free or arrange details directly. We will share full payment and earnings information once that part is launched.
