How It Works

1

Select a Voice Question

Browse voice questions for your trade. These ask you to explain procedures, troubleshooting steps, or safety protocols - just like you would to a supervisor or Red Seal examiner.

2

Record Your Response

Click the microphone button and explain the procedure verbally. You have up to 3 minutes to provide a complete answer.

3

Review Your Score

Within seconds, you'll receive a detailed evaluation showing your score across 4 criteria, along with specific feedback on how to improve your answer.

4

Get Help if Needed

If your score is below 70%, Red (your AI Study Partner) will automatically offer to walk you through the correct procedure step-by-step.

Recording Guidelines

Time Limits

Voice recordings have a 3-minute maximum. This is intentional - Red Seal examiners expect concise, well-organized explanations. If you consistently run out of time, practice organizing your thoughts before recording.

Supported Audio Formats

WEBM

MP4

Mobile recording

WAV

High quality

MP3

Standard audio

Audio Quality Tips

  • Reduce background noise - Turn off fans, music, TV
  • Use a headset microphone - Better than laptop/phone mics
  • Speak 6-12 inches from mic - Not too close (distortion) or far (unclear)
  • Test before recording - Check your mic settings work properly
  • Avoid echoes - Record in a room with furniture/carpets, not empty spaces

Understanding Your Evaluation Score

Your voice response is evaluated across 4 criteria that reflect what Red Seal examiners look for in verbal explanations:

Technical Accuracy - 40%

Most important criterion

Are your facts, specifications, and tolerances correct?

Example: When diagnosing an engine misfire, did you mention checking spark plugs, fuel injectors, and compression? Did you cite correct torque specifications?

Completeness - 30%

Second most important

Did you include all necessary steps and considerations?

Example: For brake pad replacement, did you cover: inspection, measuring thickness, checking rotors, lubricating slide pins, and break-in procedure?

Safety - 20%

Critical for Red Seal certification

Did you mention relevant safety precautions and PPE?

Example: Working with electrical systems - did you mention lockout/tagout, testing for voltage, insulated tools, and proper grounding?

Logical Sequence - 10%

Steps in correct order

Are your steps in a logical, safe order?

Example: You should disconnect battery before removing electrical components, not after. Safety steps come before diagnostic steps.

Score Interpretation

90-100% - Excellent

You're exam-ready for this topic! Your explanation was thorough, accurate, and well-organized.

70-89% - Good

Solid understanding with minor gaps. Review the feedback to address any missing steps or details.

50-69% - Needs Work

Significant gaps in your explanation. Red (Study Partner) will offer follow-up to help you understand the complete procedure.

Below 50% - Retry Recommended

Major gaps or misconceptions. Red will walk you through the procedure step-by-step using the Socratic method, then suggest retrying the question.

What To Do If Your Score Is Low (Below 70%)

Step 1: Accept Study Partner Follow-Up

When you receive a low score, you'll see a button: "Get Help from Red". Click it to start an interactive learning session.

Step 2: Interactive Walkthrough

Red uses the Socratic method - instead of just telling you the answer, Red asks guiding questions to help you discover the correct procedure yourself. This builds deeper understanding than passive learning.

Step 3: Review Reference Materials

Red will reference your uploaded study materials (textbooks, notes, equipment manuals) to show you exactly where the correct procedure is documented.

Step 4: Retry the Question

After the study session, Red will suggest retrying the voice question. Most students improve by 20-40 points after a focused study session!

Pro Tip: Don't skip low-scoring questions! These reveal exactly what you need to study before your Red Seal exam. Students who address their weak areas score 15-25% higher on practice exams.
